SEA & MUSIC 2018 WITH THE VIENNA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Concert cruise with the Vienna Philharmonic to Northern European Metropoles

07. to 16. September 2018
Overview of voyages

DEAR LADIES & GENTLEMAN

It has been ten years since the Vienna Philharmonic left the port for the first time on a cruise ship, together with passengers from all over the world, to undertake a unique journey. Under the motto „Sea & Music“ this trip has now become a regular fixed date in the philharmonic calendar: in a one-off synthesis of nature and culture, concert halls and opera houses are replaced by the blue expanse of the ocean and the special flair of a cruise ship. They are not everyday settings for art, but in a new way and to a high degree, suitable to convey inspiration and lust for life. In September 2018 it is time again: from Bremerhaven the MS Artania sets sail. A very warm welcome on board! We are pleased to offer you a varied program with some surprises that, as music enthusiasts, will delight you. Rehearsal visits on board and performances by individual ensembles of our orchestra, as well as personal encounters and conversations, make the trip an extraordinary experience for us all. Also on land, musical highlights in the world’s most famous concert halls await you: the journey takes us along the English coast and to Glyndebourne, where the first concert of our orchestra takes place. Shortly thereafter the ship docks in the Netherlands. Here the passengers have the opportunity to enjoy the second concert in the famous hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The third highlight is the visit of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. Perched high above the harbour is the new landmark of the city, the Elbphilharmonie. In this masterpiece of modern architecture, with its acoustic qualities, Mozart‘s opera „Le nozze di Figaro“ as a guest performance by the Vienna State Opera in a concert performance will be heard. It is a particular pleasure for us to have been able, also for this trip, to secure soloists and conductors of renown and distinction which are closely artistically connected with our orchestra. We wish you all a lasting impression in listening, watching and enjoying as well as unforgettable hours and days - at sea and on land!

Music speaks

for itself,

provided we give it a chance.

Yehudi Menuhin

Of course, also on the fifth concert cruise, the focus is on the artists of the Vienna Philharmonic and their musical friends. From the perspective of the organiser, it is a great pleasure to provide you with phenomenal venues for 2018. These three institutions speak for themselves. Classical concerts and medium size traditional ships are like records; for many no longer contemporary. For an ever-growing public however, incomparable in their quality, originality, in the haptic perception and especially through their unique sound. Sea & Music will take place on such a classic beauty next year, the MS Artania from Phoenix Reisen offers a floating home and the ideal size, exclusively for our international Sea & Music public. We look forward to welcoming you on board for the fifth concert cruise of the Vienna Philharmonic and their musical friends.
